Five of the easiest ways to give back this Christmas

We all know how good it feels to give back or do something good for someone in need, and what better time to do this than the festive season?

Christmas is the Season for Giving back and here we have put together 5 of our favourite ideas for giving back this festive season, plus a few extra fun and super simple ideas you could easily do this December…

#1 Reverse advent calendar

Starting on 1^st December, put a non-perishable food item in a box each day and on Christmas Eve, donate it to a food bank or a family in need.

#2 Toy or Book Clear-out

This is a great way to teach your kids about giving back, and give them a sense of gratitude for what they have, by the simple realisation that other children don’t have all that they do.

Encourage your child to choose an old toy or book that they no longer play with each day starting on 1^st December, and have them put in into a box. You can take them with you and together you can donate it to a needy Children’s Home on Christmas Eve. Let them learn from an early age the joy that comes with giving to someone less fortunate than themselves.

#3 Cupboard Clear-out

Each day from December 1^st, find an old item of clothing that you no longer wear and put it into a box. On Christmas Eve, donate it to someone needy. Alternatively,  do a single wardrobe clean up in one go to find the items you no longer wear and put them into your donation box.

#4 Spare a thought for a four-legged friend

Each day from 1^st December, put a can or bag of pet food into a box and on Christmas Eve, donate it to your nearest Animal Shelter.

#5 Shop for Christmas Gifts from our Pretty Silver ‘Christmas Selection’

Find other local businesses who support needy charities and support them with your Christmas gift and food shopping, thus allowing them to continue the good work that they do for the less fortunate in your community.

 And here are a few bonus suggestions we’ve put together for you…. 

• Dish up an extra plate of food each evening from 1^st December and, on your way to work, or to the shops the next day, find a hungry person to feed with your left-overs. Even something as simple as a peanut butter sandwich can make a world of difference to someone with a hungry tummy.
• Charity begins at home. Do something kind for a loved one each day, be it a simple act of service, a compliment or kind word, put your phone away and your work aside for half an hour and spend some real quality time playing with your children, choose to make your spouse their favourite meal, even though it may not be something that you enjoy eating.
• Collect up the loose change that’s lying around in your house or car and put it into a donation tin at your local quick shop.
• Find old items around your home that can be donated to a charity shop/ thrift store. It will also be a bonus to start the new year with less clutter around your house.
• Find a piece of litter to pick up and throw away every day.
• Walk a dog at an animal shelter
• Visit a lonely elderly person at an old age home who may not have any family close by
• Visit a Children’s Home and find out how you can help, or even if it’s just to play with the kids.
• Volunteer at a soup kitchen
• Remember, if you have plenty of left overs after your Christmas lunch, why not dish up a few plates of food and take a drive around and find some mouths to feed
